Working, working, working the night away...

Thursday, December 29th, 2005 12:00 AM MST

Well, I'm finally working on a solution to something that's been annoying me. You see, every time I refer someone to a minor page, like an HTML for an animation, you get a nasty URI with a .htm. That's one of the many things I've been trying to fight in this revision. Therefore, now I'm working on a way to eliminate that. If it doesn't work, try again. This is active devolopment.

Yeah. I got hacked.

Yeah, so I opened up the main mattfast1.com page today, and found it not to be the fun site I had that had absolutely 0 real content and links to my site, but a site that had been defaced.

So, I figured now was just as good a time as any to upload this site, and make it work. If you start clicking around, you may notice some stuff not working correctly. It's being fixed.

Also, you may notice the site has some previous entries, and that it hasn't been updated for a while. That is because I have been in active devolopment for quite some time, and havn't really cared about updating the pages. So here I am, finally going and updating them.

Development Resumed

Thursday, August 25th, 2005 12:00 AM MDT

I have restarted active development on this site yet again, after using a hiatus to take care of a few things, most notably graduation, moving to a new webhost (and domain), enrolling in college, getting a job, and just generally trying to transition.

So I moved my main blog over to Wordpress, and I don't foresee myself moving away anytime soon. I absolutely love Wordpress, even to the point that I may modify the software to support this site. Fear not, it will actually be extensively tested and tweaked before a conversion is made to wordpress, so for now, we're just going to have to live with the current site.

I've started working with the files once again, but now I notice that it's impossible for me to make the shared borders show up on my pages except in frontpage. That's a bit of a problem, since the shared border houses the large and in charge menu at the side. Without the borders, I would have to convert everything to PHP or use some other scripting language to make things work.

I just hope I can get that problem fixed. I really don't want to have to move the entire site to a scripting language simply because of a silly little problem with FrontPage.

UPDATE 01/05/06: I've moved the code over into Javascript. Expect more features soon!

UPDATE 09/09/09: The code is now using a combination of PHP, Javascript, XHTML, and CSS.

What a strange week.

A bunch of us from my Shakespeare class were going to go see a production of Twelfth Night at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts yesterday, but on Friday we found out that the tickets that were supposedly reserved for us were sold anyway, and since the show is sold out, we couldn't get any other tickets. So, instead, I stayed at home and watched DVDs all night.

I hope my bribery works on Sho. The Arapahoe Library District is providing me with coupons for free Chipotle to bribe him to perform various tasks, including having people submit to the Koelbel Public Library Teen Art Wall. It's nice, because I can skim the coupons in transit without anyone getting suspicious.

It's been dark all day today. I'm not complaining, though, because yesterday it was so sunny and light and hot outside that I just wanted to kill the next guy who looked at me. What can I say, I'm hot, but I definately don't swing that way. That's really more for people like Sho. Before you accuse me of making unfair statements about Sho, let me remind you that this is a guy who brags about "making a better woman than half the girls in the school" and about "having guys hit on him when he's dressed as a girl".

I'm not even going to try to update this every day, because I know I can't possibly keep up. Instead, I'm going to say that I'm going to update this at least once a week, and if I do it more, that can be my gift to you. So there.

I laugh in your face, you stupid computer!

Well, I just finished adding a fail-safe to this entire site. Now, even if I tell it to use something it doesn't understand, it will default back to the original black theme. It may not be how I intended, but eventually I'm gonna centralize all the coding so the individual theme files carry less actual information and just give different colors.

Oklahoma! is over. It's a bittersweet ending, because most of these people I'll never see again. Or if I do, I'll be old and senile and won't remember all the great times I've had with them. This show, however, had the worst freaking hostility factor I've ever seen, so that makes it kinda happy to get over with and start Act II of my life: College. Every Shakespearian play had five acts, and that's about how we live: The first act is our K-12 schooling, the second is college, the third act is our job and career, the fourth act is retirement, and the fifth act is extreme old age, senility, heart problems, and death. I'm not too eager to start the third act just yet, or hurry it up, because I don't want to put my family through the fifth act. However, it must come eventually.

Snow. That's it, just snow.

Monday, April 11th, 2005 12:00 AM MDT

It snowed yesterday. Exceedingly. As in, we have two and a half feet of snow in our backyard. And yet, I was surprised when our school district was closed. Why is that, you might say? Well, I have two reasons: First, the roads around the area aren't in that bad a shape, for the amount of snow they received. Second, because we have one of those "I used to walk through this much snow every day to get to school. Five miles. Uphill both ways." Of course, he's from Alaska, and never gives snow days. Ever. Freakin' bastard.

The school closing this particular week is a huge problem for me, because the house has to be looking extremely clean by Wednesday. I was hoping to utilize two days to give actors opportunities to earn tech hours from us. But I guess I'll just have to use one day, and offer an even larger amount of tech hours than I was planning on. I also need pictures of the actors... I'm going to kill Sho...

Hokay, I Really Need to update this more often

Sunday, April 10th, 2005 12:00 AM MDT

Wow, it's been over seven months since I've updated this. So, you might say, "Why such a long time between posts? Why won't you update this site? I really need to read new material here or I will shrivel up and die!" If you actually said that, you really need some professional help. I mean, I know I run a great website, but that's just a little excessive.

So, now I will attempt to summarize the last seven months and the impact of each major event on my virtual life. Here goes!

October: Finished the run of The Crucible in the Arapahoe Theatre. Since October was the only month in which tech work was completed, I exhausted myself. My Christmas Carol crew chief was also running the crew during this time, making it very difficult as I was often expected to be in two places at the same time. Fortunately, I had a somewhat understanding crew chief who wasn't too overly-pissed that I was never there. This helped tremendously.

November: Started full-scale work on Christmas Carol. Threw things at various people. Exhausted self. Killed crew chief. Resurrected crew chief. Killed him again. Resurrected him again. Continued cycle.

December: Ran Christmas Carol three nights. Sold out all three. Ran about $30 under projected revenues. Moved heavy things. Won bid for Publicity Crew Chief for The Buff Buccaneer Or The Pretty Pirate. Christmas Carol crew chief became actor (Chinese sage), along with The Buff Buccaneer Webcomic illustrator. Set up office for Publicity Crew. Had office torn down. Set it back up. Had it complained about, then torn down. Still repeating cycle.

January: Continued same cycle with Publicity office. Yelled at people. Made important phone calls. Sold tickets. Didn't do much else, but this was still a humongous drain.

February: Ran The Buff Buccaneer three nights. Didn't sell out any, but came damn close Friday night. Ran about $30 over projected revenues. Moved heavy things. Won bid for Publicity Crew Chief for Oklahoma!, along with my crew chief fromChristmas Carol (does this guy ever go away?). Secured Publicity computer. Continued cycle with Publicity office, with added perk of having computer screwed with constantly by non-Publicity peoples.

March: Continued same cycle with Publicity Office. Yelled at people. Made important phone calls. Sold tickets. Sat on butt and discussed how stupid various people on the show are with other crew chief. Laughed. Ate Chipotle. Not ate at Chipotle, ate Chipotle. Acquired Legend of Dragoon for PSX, and have spent much time playing this game. Got my Gmail account (finally, I was invited!)

April: Will run Oklahoma! three nights. Have already sold out all three. Ran $80 over projected revenue. Moved heavy things. Won bid for... wait a minute, there are no more shows for me to crew chief! This is very sad indeed. Finally managed to permanently kill crew chief from Christmas Carol. Did absolutely nothing, but still had to be there.

As you can see, this has been a very exhausting seven months. I've barely had time to do anything with this site, although I have a new pre-designed theme for our web design customers meant to drive down the cost of web design: the Snow theme, which is being displayed across the site currently. Any feedback is welcome, and you may also comment on our original black theme along with anything you think is stupid on this site by e-mailing mattfast1(at)gmail.com. Remember to replace the (at) with the @ symbol when e-mailing me.

Oh, yeah: I scrapped the blog idea. I would if I had the proper blog software, but since I don't, I'm just gonna be one of the few who updates this site the old-fashioned (read: 2001) way.
